Shopping For Winter Boots

The one item that I hate to purchase is footwear. I can never find what I want.

I having been making a list of items I need to purchase for the fall/winter. The one item on my list that I wanted to put off for as long as possible or until it snows was a pair of winter boots. I was looking for something long that I can wear with skirts or dresses.

I was going through the shopping bookmarks on my computer when I came across the website RetailMeNot. The website has coupon codes and printable coupons for various stores. There was a code for Sears Canada that was valid until October 2nd. I went to the site and decided to do a search for boots. I found the boots that I wanted.

Martino® Leather Winter Boots with 1" Heel

My biggest problem finding winter boots is that I have large calves. Once when I was working out a guy who had muscles all over his body said that he loved my calves. I did not take it as a compliment. These boots have a zipper as well as a back lace to adjust fit to 14-19". Hopefully, they fit when I pick them up.

Website price $139.99 until October 4, 2009. With the coupon code I received a 10% discount.

TIFF 2009 - Until Next Year

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) ended on Saturday September 19, 2009.

The winner of the Cadillac People's Choice award went to "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire. It was the best film that I saw over the ten days.

You can view the press conferences at the following link: http://www.tiff.net/livefromthefestival/mediagallery/pressconferences/default.aspx

In a previous post I said that the week of the film festival is probably the one week in the year that I spend more than any other time of the year. Well, this year was an exception. I did not do much shopping. I bought the following items:

This ring at Obsessions Fashion Accessories at 2 Bloor Street West Toronto for $12.00

Moleskine Weekly Notebook Planner July 2009 - December 2010 at Chapters for $20.00

Magic Bullet Express at Kitchen Stuff Plus (17-piece set) for $59.00

The one item that I was sure I was going to purchase was a new bag. That did not happen.

Mor de luxe Spa Orange Blossom Body Bar

Winners is of my favourite store to shop. I am like a kid in a candy store. I love the body products section in the store.

On my last visit to the store I bought some soap. I had never heard of the brand Mor. I bought Mor de luxe spa Orange Blossom Body Bar. It smells amazing and it lathers like no other soap I have ever used. It is enriched with shea butter and vitamin E. I have to find out where I can find more products in Toronto. For now I will be going to different Winners stores to see if I can find more soap.

Mor Cosmetics is an Australian company. The collections include luxurious soaps, lotions and pampering products.

Precious: Based On The Novel "Push" By Sapphire

Some movies are forgotten not long after you leave the theatre and there are those that stay with you for a long time. Today, I saw the film Precious: Based On The Novel "Push" By Sapphire. This film truly moved me to tears. It was raw, intense and emotionally draining. The performance of the lead actress Gabourey Sidibe was incredible. However, it was Mo'Nique that blew me away.

The audience gave the director Lee Daniels a long standing ovation at the end of the film. He was almost moved to tears. I highly recommend this film.

TIFF Update - Day 3

It is day three of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), but day one for me.

I watched two films today - City of Life and Death and Women Without Men. I spent six hours in the Scotiabank Theatre. I left the first film and got in line for the second. I like to get a good seat.

I realized that it will be hard to eat healthy this week. Too many temptations. I have $25 on my Starbucks card. Hopefully, that is enough for the week.

The Days Events...

1. People need to have more manners. A man yelled at a woman today because he thought that she was saving seats. Actually someone else had left their items on their seat and either went to get a snack or use the washroom. This happened at the screening of Women Without Men.

2. I passed MuchMusic on my way to the subway and there was a crowd outside. Too small for the Jonas Brothers. It was Drew Barrymore at Etalk for an interview. I could not see her, but I heard her voice. I could not get a picture. Happy to see sunlight. Did not stick around.

3. In the subway station I saw a man in a tuxedo holding a bridal veil. Not something you see everyday.

4. A man was carrying a package of bed sheets. Pay the 5 cents and buy a bag.

Note to self: the knapsack was not comfortable. Need a new bag.

No films on Sunday. My day of rest. Monday...Precious.

Good Hair

I have tickets to the movie Good Hair during the film festival. I can't wait to see it. The Chris Rock documentary looks at the African American hair culture. However, it affects all black women and their hair.

After my hair started to fall out due to a hair stylist who thought that she could do everything by herself, I decided to cut my hair off. Now I go to the barber. Yesterday I spent two hours waiting to see my barber for a 5 minute hair cut.

Shopping During TIFF

During the Toronto International Film Festival, I take a week off work to attend the screenings. I also spend more money than during any other time of the year.

When I have time between films, I wander through Yorkville and pop into Holt Renfrew. Last year I purchased this Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Groovee handbag. It was an impulse buy, but I love the bag.

This year I have not planned to do much shopping. I made sure to fit my pilates reformer and mat classes into my schedule.
