Oh, The Weather Outside Is Frightful...
Where would you rather be?
It is the last day of January and in Toronto we have had more snow than last winter which broke a 70 year record for snowfall. I think we have more snow than Antartica.
There is snow everywhere. The salt marks on pants and boots are inevitable. I don't know how anyone can wear Uggs in this weather. Don't their feet get wet? They just don't seem practical for this weather. A couple of weeks ago while walking to the subway I was splashed by a bus and was covered from my head down to my boots with dirty slush. It was gross. I was more concerned for my bag than my coat. We still have two more months of snow. Hopefully, it does not continue into April.

Carol's Daughter
Lisa Price started making bath and body products in her kitchen in Brooklyn. In 1993 she started selling her products at flea markets and craft fairs with an investment of $100. The products immediately sold out. In 1999, Lisa opened her first store. She has received support from celebrities such as Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and Jada Pinkett Smith
The products are natural and smell amazing. You must try the Love Butter. I used the Gelee de Soleil Browning Oil when I went on my Caribbean Cruise. I was looking for a natural alternative to sunblock as I seem to break out when I use them. I happened to pop into Honey Fig in Toronto and was quite happy that they carried some Carol's Daughter products. It was suggested that I try the Gelee de Soleil Browning Oil. It smells amazing. It is enriched with palm kernel oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter and avocado butter.
The products are available at the Carol's Daughter website and at Sephora.

LOST
As I was waiting for the bus yesterday in this frigid Canadian winter, my poor chapped lips needed to be soothed. I dug around in my bag for my Rosebud Salve tin. It was not there. I continued to feel around for about a minute, but nothing. I have been trying to carry less in my handbag, but items are still hard to find. When I got home I emptied the contents of my bag. I still could not find it. I searched my desk at work today and still nothing. If there is one item that I don't leave home without, it is my Rosebud Salve. It is one of my favourite lip balms. Kiehl's is a close second.
Until I go to Sephora to buy a new tin, my new constant companion will be the C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve that I bought at Bath & Body Works last fall which happens to also come in a tin.

Recessionista???
When I travel I carry almost everything that I own. Basically, I am not a light traveller. The last time I went on vacation I had one large suitcase, a carry-on bag and my purse. I had to carry three heavy bags in two hands. I decided that the next time I go on trip that I would have to get a new bag. I wanted something like a messenger bag that was functional. I have checked out different websites and browsed in some stores, but I have not been able to find anything that I like.
Last night a thought came to me. Why spend money on a new bag when I could just use one that I already own? I have several bags that had a shoulder strap attached. I would take the strap off as it always got in the way. I decided to look for the strap for my Roots bag. I could not find it, but I found the strap for my brown Lululemon bag. I decided to attach the strap to a large leather Cha Cha bag which had a short shoulder strap. I was so amazed at how good the bag looked. It is a large bag that is very roomy and would be great for travelling. Sometimes when you are looking for something you would be surprised what you can find in your closet. Did I just have a recessionista moment? I saved myself some money.

Golden Globe Awards
It has been almost 6 months since I started working on the bag that I was knitting for myself. I decided to watch the Golden Globe Awards last night which was three hours long as I can never find the time to knit. For some strange reason I find it easier to knit while watching television.
The awards show started at 8:00pm. By 8:10pm I noticed that something was wrong. I made a mistake that I could not fix. I have never completed a project before using circular needles. I did not know what to do. Should I go back to the store Americo Original and ask them for help or unravel the work I had done. I am a beginner knitter. I have only made scarves. Nothing difficult. The bag only required the knit stitch, so it should have been simple. I made the hard decision to unravel the project. It took 20 minutes. For the rest of the evening I just watched the ball of yarn. What to do now?
Happy to see Kate Winslet win two Golden Globe Awards. I first saw her in Heavenly Creatures. Great actress.
I must see Slumdog Millionaire.

One Week
It has been a long week. I am finally able to get out of my bed. At least I was able to access my email on my iPod Touch. The boredom drove me crazy. When not sleeping I would be on my MacBook.
The first thing that I want to do before I go back to the office is go to Starbucks. For some strange reason, I was craving Starbucks and Kettle Chips. Thankfully, my sister was kind enough to buy me some Kettle Chips on Friday. The bag is done. Now all I need is a grande latte from Starbukcks with whip cream.
I ventured out of the house today to gets some fresh air. I did not want the blast of Arctic Canadian air to hit me first thing Monday morning. It would be a shock to the system. I went to the local mall which does not have much, but it was better than nothing. It was odd not spending any money for one week. My bank must have thought that something was wrong. I just bought two pillows and I got a great deal for a duvet cover at the Bay which was originally priced at $99.99. It was marked down to $49.99. When the salesperson rang up my order it was $29.99. That was all I could handle for the day. I hope I don't go crazy spending next week.

Bring Your Own Bag
If you are like me and you don't go to the grocery store without carrying your own bags, then the 2 for 1 deal from Bring Your Own Bag will be ideal. You get two bags for the price of one at their online boutique. The bags are great for an eco-friendly lifestyle, are reusable, and made from organic cotton. They would be a great alternative to plastic bags.

UPS Brokerage C.O.D.
I have been in bed with the flu flor the last couple of days. This morning to my surprise UPS was at the door with the Coach Bag that I won. I was called to the door as there was a problem. I was in my pajamas and was not wearing my glasses. I was informed that the driver was expecting payment of $106.82 for import charges. I was not told that I had to make any payments towards an item that I had won. The UPS driver told me that I could refuse the package and that it would be held in Toronto for one week and then returned. I told him that I would refuse the package. I immediately emailed Catherine from That's a Fabulous Handbag. She responded back 45 minutes later with the following response:
You're kidding! We were told you would have to pay a $20 import tax of some sort. We don't have those sort of taxes/charges in the US, so I had no idea it was so high. That's ridiculous. Now I know why many contests are for US citizens only!
I'm sorry, but we will have to give the bag to another winner.
Best Regards,
Catherine
A word of advice to Canadian's that enter U.S. contests - DON'T. I am very angry about the situation. So far 2009 sucks!!!!
P.S. I bought the Coach Op Art Large Sabrina below for my birthday/Christmas gift to myself a couple of weeks ago. Good thing I did not return it when I found out I won the other bag. It is quite beautiful. Time to save for my next trip.

Happy 2009
I would like wish all of my friends, family and readers all the best in 2009. I would also like to thank everyone that sent me emails and comments. I am glad that you enjoy the blog.
When I look back on 2008 the time seems to have gone by so quickly. The few memories that I have are getting deep tissue massages. Hopefully 2009 will be filled with more memorable events.
These are a few highlights from 2008:
- I went to the Ste. Anne's Spa for a spa day in March and I had another spa day in August at the Elmwood. I love to be pampered.
- I started the blog back in May when I was just playing around with blogger.
- In June I went to my first hot yoga class. I enjoyed the class in spite of all the sweat.
- The iPhone was finally available in Canada in July, but I was quite happy with my iPod Touch. I also did not want to break my contract with my cellphone provider.
- Bath & Body Works finally opens a store in Canada in September. I never understood why they did not offer shipping to Canada.
- I started taking aquafit classes in October. I cannot swim, but I get a great workout.
- I went on a Caribbean Cruise in November. The weather sucks in Toronto. I wish I were somewhere warm.
- One of the biggest events of the year was the election of Barack Obama as the next president of the United States.
- The finally highlight of the year for me was winning the handbag giveaway from That's a Fabulous Handbag. The bag should arrive next week.
Thanks, shari
