Help For Haiti

On Tuesday January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, the most powerful to hit in a century. The people of Haiti need our help.

The Canada for Haiti benefit telethon aired on Friday January 22, 2010 at 7:00pm on the CBC, CTV and Global. The money raised will be distributed equally among a coalition of organizations such as World Vision Canada, Oxfam Canada, the Canadian Red Cross Society, UNICEF Canada, and Save the Children Canada.

Donations can still be made by telephone and online:

Telephone number: 1 - 877-51HAITI (42484)

Online: http://www.canadaforhaiti.com

From 8:00 to 10:00pm the Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief telethon aired on American networks.

The telethon included performances from Wyclef Jean, Shakira, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Madonna, Neil Young, John Legend, and a group performance from Jay-Z, Rihanna and The Edge. The album is now available on the Apple iTunes store for only $7.99 for 20 songs. Proceeds from the sale of the album will be donated to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Programme and the Yele Haiti Foundation.

iPhone Envy

I have wanted the iPhone since the first time I heard about it. I have not purchased one yet as I am stuck in a 3 year plan that ends in 2011. This week it was finally announced that the other telecom companies in Canada, Bell Canada and Telus Mobility will start selling the iPhone in November 2009.  My current plan is with Telus and I did not want to break my contract.

The other reason I did not go out and buy the iPhone was the cost of the plans. I currently pay $28.25 a month including taxes for my cellphone.

Instead of a new bag for my birthday, I may get the iPhone.
